Charles Cheever, Jr. Honored at Eighth Annual National Speakers Luncheon with Beacon Award
Broadway Bank is celebrating Chairman Emeritus Charles “Charlie” Cheever, Jr. for receiving the Beacon Award presented by the Friends of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Foundation. The award was presented at the 8th Annual National Speakers Luncheon held on Tuesday, September 25, 2018. The Beacon Award tradition was started in 2011 at the first National Speakers Luncheon and is presented to individuals who actively participate in charitable and civic activities in our community. The Friends of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Foundation carefully chooses the recipient from a select group of candidates based on professional endeavors, civic commitment and community involvement.
Mr. Cheever continues to serve as Chairman Emeritus of Broadway Bank. In the image of his parents — Broadway Bank founders Col. Charles E. and Betty Cheever — he has dedicated himself throughout his life to giving back to his community. He has served as Co-Chairman of the San Fernando Cathedral Restoration Project and the Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas Capital Campaign; and as a Trustee of the United Way, University of the Incarnate Word, and Southwest Research Institute. He was also on the University of Texas Health Science Center’s advisory board for the Center for Medical Ethics and Humanities.
In addition, Mr. Cheever served as the Chairman, Contact Banker and Regional Director of the Texas Bankers Association, and as the Director of the San Antonio Branch of the Federal Reserve. He was the founding Co-Chairman of San Antonio Education Partnership and chaired many projects and organizations, such as the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation, the Leadership Division of Forward San Antonio and others – giving his time and expertise to a great many community organizations.
Proceeds from the National Speakers Luncheon will benefit programs supported by the Friends of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Foundation. The Friends Foundation was formed in 1997 to lead fundraising efforts on behalf of the adult health care services at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospitals. Through the efforts of the Friends Foundation, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa has been able to enhance programs, provide new equipment and support outreach efforts that uphold the healing ministry of this Catholic, non-profit, health care organization.
