A booming area of town, South San Antonio is home to many historic sights, institutions of higher learning, leisure destinations and much more. Hangar 9, the only surviving hangar from World War I is here, as are the fascinating, centuries-old Concepción, San José, San Juan Capistrano and Espada Missions, all still holding regular services.
South San Antonio is robust with higher education opportunities, including Texas A&M University-San Antonio and Palo Alto College. The University of The Incarnate Word opened its medical school in Brooks City Base, a diverse, mixed-use community on the former Brooks Air Force Base.
Nearby, Mission Trails Baptist Hospital is a new tradition of high quality medical care for local families in the heart of the south side.
For fun, South San Antonio features the vibrant Pica Pica Plaza, the Modern Mercado, home to kids’ amusements, event venues and more. The Republic Golf Course offers 18 holes of excellent golfing, while the City Base Cinema offers something for all movie lovers.
South SA Chamber’s focus is on accessibility to higher education, diversity in housing and sustainable economic development, and with all that this community has to offer, it’s easy to see that vision is being realized.
