Broadway Voices: Broadway Bankers Jacob Cavazos and Shawn Hughes discuss the bank’s education and financial literacy initiatives with Zach Espericueta of SA Podcast Network.

How Broadway is giving back to the community through partnerships, education, and intentional giving.

At Broadway Bank, financial literacy is an important pillar for us—from helping elementary students learn about a budget, to working with law school students to help them prepare for their future as attorneys and business owners. We’ve also shared our appreciation for teachers who have stepped up in unimaginable ways for our children. We’ve delivered fresh coffee and fruit cups throughout the year to say “thank you” for pivoting and adapting over the past year and a half. Our founder, Betty Cheever, served as a kindergarten teacher prior to sitting on the bank’s board of directors. Therefore, access to education and scholarships has been part of our bank values from the very beginning.

Two of our Broadway Bankers sat down with Zach Espericueta on an episode of SA Talk to discuss Broadway’s charitable mission of growing access to education in our community. Jacob Cavazos, Senior Vice President and Community Reinvestment Manager, and Shawn Hughes, Senior Vice President and Business Development & Integration Officer, have been instrumental in making Broadway’s financial literacy programs and resources available to local students and families.

“Broadway’s founders, Col. Charles E. Cheever Sr. and his wife Betty Cheever, were very focused on education. They passed that passion for education on to their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all Broadway Bankers past and present. It’s still a very large focus of our bank to do our part and make sure people in our city have access to education,” said Shawn.

Take a listen to them talk about the bank’s action and impact on the communities we serve through scholarships and financial education programs.
