Four Tips on Making Time for Fitness as a Busy Professional
At Broadway Bank, we are transforming workplace health and happiness. In fact, our Broadway Bankers are leading the charge by participating in fitness challenges each month. But how do busy professionals make time for workout classes, neighborhood walks and bike rides, parenting, chores, and appointments? We talked with four of our most active Broadway Bankers on how they juggle work and home responsibilities with their wellness goals.
Dulce Abundis, Heather Hepp, Darla Peek, and Fred Gibbons give us the skinny on fitness and what works for them.
Tip 1: Treat your workout like a meeting
To prioritize your workout during a busy day, block off time in your calendar. Treat it like a meeting by setting a recurring appointment. Then, organize the remainder of your day around that activity. If you see your workout as a focal point for the rest of your day, you will be able to take a break from your to-do list and enjoy your personal fitness time.
Tip 2: Walk and talk
If you can, turn your 1-on-1 meetings into mobile meetings. Meaning, invite your colleague outside for a brisk walk as your talk about projects and deliverables. Some of our Broadway Bankers value this method because it is also a way of relationship building with coworkers.
Tip 3: Hold yourself accountable
Once you set your goals, stick to them. No exceptions. With that in mind, it can be difficult to go from zero to sixty in terms of fitness activity in the first week. Take it slow and set small obtainable goals. As you make progress, you can always add to your goals along the way.
Tip 4: Work as a team and cheer on each other
These four Broadway Bankers worked as a team for a month-long walking challenge to ensure each of them was successful in meeting their wellness goals. They communicated their goals with each other at the beginning of the month and set expectations. They worked out individually but motivated each other with texts and emails. Daily check-ins helped them stay accountable as well. Find colleagues within your own team or organization that have the same aspirations as you do. Make working out a team effort with consistent communication and enthusiasm. Having a cheerleader in your corner benefits the process.
Health and well-being are important pillars within the Broadway Bank culture, and we are proud to offer resources that help Broadway Bankers prioritize their health in a way that matters most to them. These four Broadway Bankers found the value in working together to stay focused and motivated. Developing a fitness habit or a healthy habit can take considerable effort but working to incorporate physical activity into your daily or weekly routine all starts with a first step. Working professionals juggle many responsibilities. Be kind to yourself and remember to always celebrate the wins.
