Broadway Bank Supports Student Mental Health
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to recognize the importance of emotional well-being alongside physical health. At Broadway Bank, we understand that a healthy community thrives when all its members have access to the resources they need to flourish.
This is why we're proud to partner with Communities In Schools of San Antonio (CIS-SA) provides critical mental health support to students and families in San Antonio and the surrounding area. CIS-SA recognizes that mental health is a crucial component of student success, and they provide invaluable resources to address this need.
Through their network of dedicated Site Coordinators, CIS-SA connects students with crucial support systems. This includes access to counselors, social workers and even family counseling sessions. This comprehensive approach empowers both students and parents to navigate mental health challenges and build healthy coping mechanisms.
The impact of CIS-SA's work speaks for itself. In just a few years, the time spent providing mental health support to students and families across 59 schools has increased by over 50%. This remarkable growth is a testament to the tireless efforts of CIS-SA's Site Coordinators, who prioritize the needs of our children and the overall well-being of our community.
Jacob Cavazos is the SVP, Community Reinvestment Manager for Broadway Bank and serves as President-Elect for the Communities In Schools of San Antonio Board of Directors. “We believe that the more students succeed, the stronger our communities become. That’s why the work of CIS-SA is exceedingly meaningful. When we invest in the value of every student and give them what they need to succeed, the result is more graduates, a more robust workforce, a more prosperous economy and thriving communities,” said Jacob.
At Broadway Bank, we are deeply grateful for the dedication and expertise Communities In Schools of San Antonio brings to our community. Their unwavering commitment to student mental health aligns with our own values of fostering a strong and healthy environment for all. That's why we're proud to be in our second year of mentoring high school students through the InspireU Mentorship program, a 4-year commitment to mentor students through high school graduation. Our dedication to education traces back to our co-founder, Elizabeth "Betty" Cheever, who was a teacher. In her honor, Broadway Bank continues to uphold a legacy of supporting education programs throughout Texas.
Vanessa Villarreal, Broadway Bank’s Care Corps & Communications Officer, shared her thoughts on the InspireU program, emphasizing the importance of being a mentor to local students. "Mentorship is a powerful tool for personal and academic growth. By investing in the lives of these students, we contribute to the future success of our community. The InspireU program allows us to make a lasting impact, and we are honored to be a part of these students' journeys."
Broadway Bank has also been a proud supporter of the Communities In Schools Stuff the Bus program for over a decade. We look forward to participating in this school supplies drive each year to provide both students and teachers with the tools they need to make the school year a success.
