Dr. Mike Putney: Commitment to Community Care

Michael Putney, M.D., received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX. He also performed his internship and residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch, where he was the Resident of the Year.

Dr. Putney is an experienced orthopedic surgeon who treats a wide variety of conditions. He takes a conservative and collaborative approach with his patients emphasizing education and preventive care before surgical intervention. Dr. Putney has had numerous honors and is a member of the Texas Orthopaedic Association, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Texas Medical Association.

For Dr. Mike Putney, becoming an orthopedic surgeon was more than just a career—it was a lifelong dream. Inspired by his love of sports, biology, and science, and influenced by the craftsmanship of his father and grandfather, Dr. Putney decided in seventh grade that orthopedics was his calling.

“People tell me I’m one of the only people they’ve ever met who knew what they wanted to do from such a young age,” he says with a smile. “When I graduated from residency, my classmates said, ‘You’re the first person we’ve ever known who actually followed through on their dream.’”

After moving to Round Rock, Texas, in 1990, Dr. Putney has been a contributor and leader within the community for decades. Through his practice, Hill Country Orthopedics in Cedar Park, he has cared for patients across generations—grandparents, parents, children, and even grandchildren. “It’s incredibly rewarding to see families grow and to be part of their health journey. Watching this community grow alongside my practice has been a privilege.”

Dr. Putney’s career journey has not been without challenges. After taking time off to undergo cancer treatment, he found a renewed sense of purpose when he returned to practice in Cedar Park. “This was a great opportunity to start fresh and continue doing what I love—helping people and being part of this vibrant community.”
