Hooey Brands: Western Wear, Reimagined
Joey and Lauren Austin built Hooey Brands with vision and heart. Broadway Bank helped them scale with confidence.
When Joey and Lauren Austin started Hooey Brands in the spare bedroom of their home, they set out to reimagine western wear with a fresh perspective. Drawing inspiration from traditional western style and the laid-back influence of surf and skate culture, Hooey carved out a new space in the lifestyle apparel market—one that speaks to the modern cowboy and cowgirl who live just as comfortably on a ranch as they do at a rodeo or a concert.

What started with a few products and a big vision quickly turned into a brand with national presence and a devoted following. But success didn’t come without obstacles. After a fire destroyed their leased space early in their journey, Joey and Lauren found themselves at a crossroads. “We were forced to find our own place,” Joey recalled. “Forced to find a headquarters for Hooey that we owned. That was a huge step for us.”

They turned to Broadway Bank, a partner they trusted since the early days of the business. “Even though we were small, even though we were just beginning, they partnered with us,” Joey said. With Broadway’s help, they secured both a land loan and a construction loan, enabling them to build their first warehouse in Spring Branch, Texas. That first major investment was just the beginning. Today, Hooey operates from four warehouses, and the brand continues to expand, reaching customers nationwide.

One of the most pivotal moments in their growth came in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, when demand for Hooey products surged. To keep up with orders, access to working capital became crucial. Broadway Bank stepped in with an increase to their revolving line of credit (RLOC), giving Hooey the ability to secure the inventory they needed, exactly when they needed it. That timely support enabled them to capitalize on opportunities and scale their business during a period of rapid growth.

For the Austins, the partnership with Broadway Bank has been key to navigating that growth. “The perfect scenario for us is to have a local bank with national resources and national strength,” Joey shared. “Broadway has always come through when I needed them. There are times when we’ve needed someone immediately, someone to sit in our office in Spring Branch—and Broadway has never failed at this.”

That level of responsiveness and personalized support has made all the difference. “Locally delivered service means there is someone in our community who we can count on,” Joey and Lauren added.
