Broadway Bank Supports San Antonio College Gala

Platinum Sponsorship and Hartenstine’s lifelong commitment to education underscore Broadway Bank’s dedication to community and opportunity

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Broadway Bank is proud to serve as the first Platinum Sponsor of the San Antonio College Centennial Gala, committing $50,000 to support the San Antonio College (SAC) Foundation and its mission to shape the next century of opportunity. The contribution will fund student scholarships, helping ensure access to higher education for future generations.

This investment reflects the bank’s enduring belief in strengthening communities through education—a principle rooted in the values of its co-founders, Col. Charles E. Cheever Sr. and Elizabeth “Betty” Cheever. Betty, a former kindergarten teacher, believed deeply in the power of education to transform lives, and Broadway Bank continues to honor that legacy today.

“Our founders understood that education opens doors,” said Harvey P. Hartenstine, Interim CEO and President. “By supporting San Antonio College, Broadway Bank is investing in the future of our community and ensuring students have the tools to succeed for generations to come.”

This historic milestone also celebrates Hartenstine’s recognition as one of the 80 Champions of Opportunity by the Alamo Colleges District, honoring leaders who have advanced education and community impact. Hartenstine, who chairs the SAC Centennial Committee, shares a deeply personal connection to the college. A first-generation college student, his journey began at SAC and laid the foundation for a distinguished 46-year career in banking.

“Education changed my life,” said Hartenstine. “San Antonio College gave me my start as a student finding my path, and years later as an adjunct professor hoping to light that same spark in others. When you give someone access to education, you’re handing them the keys to transform their own life.”

Hartenstine’s dedication to education and community leadership has earned him induction into both the Texas Bankers Hall of Fame and the San Antonio Business Hall of Fame. His story reflects Broadway Bank’s commitment to creating pathways for success and investing in institutions that strengthen our community.
