Bank to match $10,000 in donations to support local children when school lets out
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – As it celebrates its 85th anniversary of serving the community, Broadway Bank today announced the launch of its annual Summer Snacks for Kids campaign in partnership with the San Antonio Food Bank, to help address food insecurity during the summer months when access to school meals is limited.
This year, Broadway Bank is starting the campaign earlier than in years past to ensure the San Antonio Food Bank has the resources it needs to support students as soon as the school year ends. An estimated 200,000 children in Bexar County face food insecurity, with the need intensifying in the summer months when school-based meal programs are limited.
Through the Summer Snacks for Kids campaign, which has been underway since 2023, Broadway Bank is encouraging the community to help bridge that gap. Donations go directly to the San Antonio Food Bank and help provide nutritious snacks for children in Bexar County during the summer break.
To kickstart the campaign and maximize community impact, Broadway Bank will match the first $10,000 in donations, dollar for dollar, doubling the number of snack boxes provided to local children.
“Serving this community for 85 years has shown us that our greatest impact comes from showing up for our neighbors, especially in times of need,” said Josh Loden, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Banking Executive at Broadway Bank and board member of the San Antonio Food Bank. “The summer months create a significant challenge for families that rely on school meals. Through our partnership with the San Antonio Food Bank, we have the opportunity to come together as a community and make a real difference. Every donation, especially during this matching period, helps ensure children in Bexar County have access to the nutritious food they need to thrive.”
“Summer should be a time for fun, not hunger. But for more than 200,000 children in San Antonio who depend on school meals, the end of the school year creates a 10-week gap we must bridge,” said Eric S. Cooper, President & CEO, San Antonio Food Bank. “That's why we're grateful Broadway Bank is helping us kickstart our Summer Meals for Kids campaign in April and May, because preparation can't wait until June. When partners show up early, it gives us the head start we need to make sure no child goes hungry this summer. We can't do this alone, and we're asking the entire community to join us in filling the 20 million meal gap.”
The campaign runs from April 1 through May 31, and donations can be made online at broadway.bank/snacks.
As Broadway Bank marks 85 years, initiatives like Summer Snacks for Kids reflect its ongoing commitment to strengthening the communities it serves and investing in the well-being of future generations. That commitment is rooted in the legacy of the Cheever family, whose leadership has guided the bank’s community-focused mission for decades.
