Celebrating Pride Month with Michael Rendon
We’re proud to be as diverse as the communities we serve. As we celebrate our diversity and recognize the importance of Pride Month 2024, we are honored to spotlight Michael Rendon, Relationship Banker and a Board of Governor for the Human Rights Campaign, to learn what Pride means to him and hear how our inclusive culture is empowering all Broadway Bankers to be the best versions of themselves.
What does Pride mean to you, and how are you celebrating this year?
Pride means love, acceptance, education, and celebration. It is also a time to honor and celebrate the remarkable resilience, beauty, and diversity of the LGBTQ+ community.
This year I am celebrating with my husband, our friends and family, and participating in different Pride events around town. We are celebrating with open hearts, support, and fierce determination to create a world where every person can live with dignity, respect, and love. I serve as a Board of Governor for the Human Rights Campaign and invite everyone to join us in the San Antonio Pride Parade and Festival.
What can people expect with 2024 Pride celebrations?
You can find many Pride celebrations happening across Texas for everyone to attend. You can expect love, energy, joy, community, vibrant colors, and a safe space for everyone.
What is your role at Broadway Bank and what does it entail?
I am an Elite Banker/Relationship Banker III. I also proudly serve on the Diversity and Inclusion Council and as a Care Corps Champion. I build and maintain relationships with our customers and offer advice on everything from personal and business accounts to loans and assisting them with their financial goals and needs. I also train, develop, support, and mentor new employees.
What is your favorite part of your day?
My favorite part of the day is connecting with our customers and understanding how to best match their needs. I love talking to our customers about Broadway’s history, our culture, and how we are showing up for our community. I also enjoy learning about our customers and building real relationships with each of them.
What does “acceptance” look and feel like, particularly at work?
Acceptance is creating a safe space for every employee and fostering a sense of belonging for everyone. Broadway has built a more diverse, more inclusive workplace, and provides equal opportunities for everyone.
How do you know that you “belong” at Broadway Bank?
Broadway creates many ways for us to get involved, build relationships with one another, celebrate with each other, and give back to the community. I encourage everyone to look into joining Toastmasters, Care Corps, YBG, or any of our Employee Impact Groups and get involved.
If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be?
To create more willingness towards embracing acceptance and celebrating the differences of others. A world where everyone can feel safe in their home, workplace and community.
For more than eight decades, Broadway Bank has been committed to building a culture where everyone is welcome. We stand dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive workplace and promoting courageous engagement in our community. Happy Pride Month to our LGBTQ+ bankers, customers and community members!
