Empowering Future Leaders Through Financial Literacy
At Broadway Bank, investing in our community means investing in its future leaders. One of our most impactful partnerships is with San Antonio ISD and Edison High School through the FinPrep Program — a yearlong financial literacy initiative designed to equip high school students with the skills and knowledge needed for lifelong financial wellness.
Since 2022, Broadway Bank has partnered with Edison High School’s business magnet program to deliver monthly in-classroom financial literacy lessons. Topics span core banking functions, credit education and smart money management. The program also includes hands-on activities and immersive learning experiences led by Broadway Bankers who are also graduates of Edison High School.

The FinPrep year culminates with a special field trip to Broadway Bank’s headquarters, where students tour key departments, engage with professionals in the field and participate in a graduation ceremony that marks the end of their journey — and the beginning of a promising future.
“This is one of my favorite days of the year,” said Jacob Cavazos, Chief Community Reinvestment & Corporate Responsibility Officer at Broadway Bank. “We get to celebrate the hard work of our students and see everything they’ve learned in the classroom come to life.”
Celebrating the Class of 2024–2025
This year, 23 Edison High School seniors completed the program. For the first time, Broadway Bank incorporated a scholarship component to recognize outstanding achievement. Students who also earned a Commercial Real Estate Certificate or associate’s degree through partnerships with Alamo Colleges were eligible.
Nine students were awarded Broadway Bank scholarships in recognition of their hard work and academic excellence.
A Day of Service and Celebration

The FinPrep graduation day began with a community service project in partnership with Meals on Wheels, where students volunteered their time to give back — a value that’s deeply ingrained in Broadway Bank’s mission through its Care Corps employee volunteer program. Afterward, the students returned to the Broadway Bank main campus to explore different departments and participate in their graduation ceremony.

“This program is about so much more than just financial literacy,” said Cavazos. “It’s about giving students tangible life skills they’ll use the moment they graduate. We’re preparing them for jobs, for college, for real-world decision-making.”
Expanding Opportunities Through Workforce Development
A new addition to this year’s FinPrep Program was a workforce development partnership with the City of San Antonio, Catholic Charities and the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

Twelve students became certified tax preparers after completing 16 hours of advanced training, enabling them to assist community members with tax filing. Broadway Bank supported this effort by providing incentives and facilitating volunteer opportunities—further reinforcing its commitment to both education and community empowerment.
“We’re incredibly proud of the students who stepped up to become VITA-certified,” said Cavazos. “Not only are they learning valuable skills, but they’re also giving back to their community in meaningful ways.”

To date, Broadway Bank has graduated 77 Edison HS students from its FinPrep program. Edison High School is a SAISD Business Magnet School where students enrolled in the P-TECH program graduate with an associate’s degree in accounting or finance.
