Scholarship Winner Spotlight 2024 Broadway’s San Antonio Education Partnership Scholarship winner

Broadway Bank is pleased to announce that Sian Bernal has been selected as this year’s $10,000 scholarship recipient through our partnership with San Antonio Education Partnership (SAEP).

Our relationship with SAEP allows us to award a student each summer with $10,000, as well as a meet-and-greet opportunity with Broadway Bank leadership.

Sian, a recent graduate of Lanier High School, will be attending Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) to pursue a degree in education. Her academic achievements, combined with her dedication to her community, made her an ideal candidate for the scholarship.

“I’m incredibly grateful to Broadway Bank for this recognition and scholarship,” said Sian. “It’s a huge relief knowing that I can focus on my studies without the added financial burden.”

Sian’s career goal as a teacher is to inspire and empower students to become lifelong learners, critical thinkers and compassionate individuals. She aspires to create a dynamic and inclusive learning environment where students feel valued and supported in reaching their full potential.

"What motivates me to pursue a teaching career is the impact educators can have on shaping students' lives," said Sian. "I'm inspired by the opportunity to instill a love for learning and curiosity but also to show young learners that they can be their absolute best regardless of where they come from."

Broadway Bank has a long-standing commitment to supporting local education and has been awarding scholarships through SAEP since 2010. To date, the bank has provided over $120,000 in scholarships to deserving students.

“We are proud to continue our partnership with SAEP and to support talented students like Sian in their pursuit of higher education,” said Jacob Cavazos, SVP, Community Reinvestment Manager at Broadway Bank. “This scholarship is more than just financial aid; it's an investment in the potential of our next generation and we’re honored to carry out the legacy of our founders by providing opportunities for students throughout the year.”

Broadway Bank's commitment to education aligns with the vision of former CEO and Chairman Emeritus Charles E. Cheever Jr., who helped establish SAEP in 1989. The bank's scholarship program has had a significant impact on the lives of countless students, many of whom are first-generation college students.

Join us in congratulating Sian for all her accomplishments. We look forward to cheering her on as she completes her studies at OLLU.
