Summer Intern Spotlight 2024
Broadway Bank offers a paid internship program that provides experiential learning opportunities to college students who have professional goals and seek exposure to a desired area of study.
“One of the things we do best is provide a rotational approach to allowing our interns to observe how several departments, not just their own, interact to support the company’s strategic priorities,” said Chelsea Weld, Assistant Vice President and Talent Management Officer at Broadway Bank. “I’m very proud of the program our organization has developed because it provides students with a realistic job preview and allows Broadway Bank an opportunity to invest in our future workforce.”
This summer, Broadway Bank welcomed two students for internships at our headquarters in San Antonio, Texas. Meet our talented interns: Edward Thomas Agsunod and Reid Watt.
Edward Thomas Agsunod
Meet Edward Thomas Agsunod, Broadway Bank’s Commercial Credit department summer intern. Edward is from Montgomery, Texas and is a student at Sam Houston State University studying finance and banking, as well as Supply Chain Management.
What has been your favorite part about interning at Broadway Bank?
Edward: My favorite part of working at Broadway is that it has reinforced the notion that banking is the path I wish to pursue in life. The impact bankers have on their community, and getting to see how banking can impact the community, has been a great experience.
I've learned that banking affects many people by learning about the Community Reinvestment Act which helps low-income families and getting to see the projects that the commercial real estate team has worked on, many of which I see or visit on a daily basis.
We've been working on the critical supplier financial review which happens annually. It is an analysis of the safety & soundness of our critical suppliers.
Reid Watt
Meet Reid Watt. He is also interning with the Broadway Bank Commercial Credit Department this summer. Reid is from San Antonio and is a student at Texas A&M University in College Station where he is pursuing a degree in finance planning and a master’s in financial management.
What is a project you worked on this summer that you’re proud of?
Reid: This summer, I worked on the bank’s annual financial review for our critical third-party relationships. This showed me how to spread financial statements and perform the necessary financial analysis for all relationships. We also had to provide written memos that stated the analysis more in depth which will be shared with Broadway’s senior leadership. Edward and I will share this project with several leaders from various departments to conclude our internship.
My favorite part about interning here at Broadway has been the opportunity to meet new people and learn from them. Everyone we’ve met with has helped share their knowledge and included me and Edward in their department’s activities. It’s been interesting to me to experience a job that feels family-like. Broadway culture is special, and I think that is just one of the many reasons Broadway sets themselves apart from competitors.
Specifically, something I’ve learned this summer is the loan process and the analysis needed for it. I had a very surface-level understanding of these aspects of banking before coming into this internship. I’m excited to apply this knowledge in my classes this upcoming academic year. Also, learning the workings of different departments in the bank showed me that there’s a lot of opportunity to find a career within the financial industry that I look forward to pursuing post-graduation.
