Five tips for a great virtual first impression from Broadway's Talent Acquisition Officer
During the pandemic, Broadway Bank incorporated technology into many of our programs and services, bringing resources and opportunities to customers and employees throughout our footprint.
For example, our Broadway Bank Talent Management team turned our recruitment efforts into a virtual experience using video conference calls and online applications. As virtual interviews become more common and many professionals work from home, our Broadway Bankers are opting for this resource to be flexible and mindful of an interviewee’s schedule and family responsibilities.
Unlike a traditional in-person job interview, the candidate must take extra steps to prepare their surroundings and eliminate distractions. Broadway Bank’s Talent Acquisition Officer, Chelsea Weld, shares five tips on preparing for a video job interview that help you to make the best first impression.
1. Acquaint Yourself with the Platform
Test your ability to access the platform to make sure it is compatible with your technology. Doing so will help avoid pesky and unnecessary tech issues during your meeting.
2. Turn On Your Camera
It’s easier to connect with others when you can see them, and they can see you. It is always best to have light in front of you, not behind you.
3. Dress Up
You might be working from home, but don’t let that stop you from dressing to impress. Stay away from t-shirts or tank tops.
4. Extend a Virtual Handshake
We are in a time when we cannot shake hands, so be sure to still connect with the person on the other end of the meeting by addressing them by name and looking them in the eye through your camera.
5. Avoid Multitasking
The best way to make a great impression in a virtual world is by being present! Set your phone to the side, turn it on silent mode, find a quiet place for the meeting, and limit the opportunity for distractions.
Reaching for a new career opportunity can be exciting and daunting. Whether you are meeting in-person or virtually, practice makes perfect. Practice these five tips and prepare for the unexpected. The more prepared you are, the stronger your performance and confidence.
